What is a dental crown?
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped dental restoration that covers the entire visible portion of a tooth. A dental crown is cemented permanently in place.
When is a dental crown needed?
Drs. Sefcik, Andrews, and Andrews may recommend a dental crown in Broomfield, Colorado, in situations in which a tooth needs to be strengthened, have its shape restored, or have its appearance improved. A dental crown may be suggested to:
– Protect a tooth with a large filling
– Protect a weak tooth from breaking
– Restore a broken tooth
– Anchor a dental bridge
– Restore a dental implant
– Improve the appearance of a discolored or badly shaped tooth
– Support a tooth that has had root canal therapy
What should I expect during treatment?
First, the tooth receiving the dental crown will be altered to allow room for the dental crown in your mouth. An impression will then be taken of the tooth and the surrounding teeth so that the dental crown can be custom made. When the dental crown is complete, our dentists will check the fit. After any necessary tweaks are made, the dental crown will be cemented into place.
How do I take care of a dental crown?
Surprisingly, dental crowns do not require any special care. Like natural teeth, all they require is daily brushing and flossing and regular trips to the dentist.
